2.7 stopped working
I have a '00 intrepid 2.7. I was approaching a red light and I slowed down, when I pressed on the brake, the car started shaking, turned off, and engine light came on. I restarted the car but it was shaking and engine light was on, I drove home with difficulty, I had to change to neutral at the light and press on the gas so the car would not turn off, the car stopped a block from my house, and It never started again, I have not been able to get a reading form the OBDII becuase of the battery dying of trying to turn it on. When I jumped the car it gave me no codes. I do not what to do now, I checked the power, fuel pump is working, I do know how to check if it is one of the sensors or the PCM, Help, I've been riding the bus to work, and carpooling to school.

When you said it wouldn't start, did you mean the engine w/n turn over? ie battery dead? If so, your charging system may be bad. As the battery drains without being recharged, the engine will run crapy until it becomes too week to run the engine anylonger.
Now if you ment that you kept trying to turn the engine over and eventually ran out of juice, charge the battery and try to crank it. Next before you deplete the battery, check the engine codes (if any). Let me know what codes you find.
If none, I've seen the MAP sensor stick and cause this kind of trouble. Unplug it and try to start the car. If it runs, (preformance will not be great as the computer is using a default setting) replace the sensor for under$50 and 1 min of work.

it turns but won't start,I can smell gas, after thebattery went deadthere was no codes on the OBDII. I tried disconecting the map sensor and does not turn on.
I was told by a mechanic that It may be the computer that has a short on it or there is a short somewhere that is shorting the computer. The previous mechanic said hechanged the computer, this mechanic told me thatcomputershave different programs and that I need to get the old one so that we can find out what kind of program thatone had. He told me everything that can go wrong with these cars, I did not needed to hear all that. He is going to come and check the car this week to diagnose, I willkeep you posted and thank you for your recomendations

It could be a broke tooth on the belt, makingthe timing incorrect. No matter, the belt needs to be changed soon. It may as well be now, it may also be your problem. One other point, while in tnere change the belt tensioner and the pump.

Yes it does need replacement at 100K miles along with the chain tensioner water pump. This is absolutly correct. It is however more than likely not why the car just decided to die. Timing chains will break, but not immediatly unless the car was driven to hell and gone and there are many an Intrepid with chains that have lasted atleast to 150K miles without breaking. None the less do change it.
If there was something wrong with the PCM it would throw the following code: P0601
This essentially will tell you if your computer is malfuntioning, this is a very vauge code and does mean anythings wrong with the PCM. I get it about every six months, and the car runs fine.
Since you cant keep the car atleast powered long enough to get codes have you considered an alternator and battery change. Start there and report back....

The fact you asked this Mat, shows you are not very familiar with the English language or can't read...see my first reply to this post.
As for the chain you are correct, my bad, I was thinking of the 3.5
As for the 601 code, if you read other posts, you will find quite a few people that have had bad PCM's with NO code. In a perfect world systems all work as advertised and everything is simple...it has been my experience it is not a perfect world!
Jerry,
Before you spend the $ by throwing parts (PCM told by mechanic/previous mechanic), what is going on? In the initial post, you did not mention a prior malfunction leading to a previous PCM change. Is this a new problem or reoccurring? Did you just fill your gas tank; it could be bad fuel/water in the gas. Just because you smell gas does not mean the pressure is good, it could be a filter also. Check the pressure at the rail. One last thing, what is the whole story, from prior to the PCM change? Was it good for a while? How long (time and miles). The history may help in the diagnostics via a message board, as you are the only set of eyes on the vehicle.
The reason why theres a smell of gas is because the clyinders are flooded with gas. It sounds like a elertical problem with the charging system or PCM. Make sure the battery cables are on tight and check the battery for 12 volts. If the battery is dead then it's the charging system (battery or Altenator). If the battery is full it might be the battery cables or PCM. The codding of the PCM shouldn't really matter because i've seen people run a 3.5L on a 2.7L PCM or vise versa with no problems. Besides even if you got the codding info for the old PCM you wouldn't be able to revert back to it unless you found another PCM unit that has the coding.
Intrepids have crappy cables. I had to rewire most of my car with in the first month of ownership.
Get the simple stuff checked out first. If all checks out then check out the fuel filter and timing system.

I towed the car to a mechanic, after 5 weeks of waiting , they found that both Crank and CAM sensors were bad, also the battery, car is running but, the oil light comes on when I come to a stop light or I slow down to turn, it only happens after I've been driving for 20 minutes or so, also when I am driving on low speed temperature seems to raise faster than when I am driving on high speed, I have not checked the fans, but the mechanic did mention that my fans were NOW working properly, I don't know if they stopped working again.
Car drives fine is just those two issues that concern me, I don't want the car to overheat in case oil is not going up or fans not working.
Thank you in advance
