Help!!! code 0700
Hi all this is my first post. Looks like I am in the right spot. I have a 2002 Intrepid with what I believe to be a transmission problem. When my wife was driving and was leaving a parking lot she heard a "clunk" in the lift front and when she tried to leave from a stop sign she heard the noise again and the car seemed to go into neutral but after a time it went into gear and was fine. Then the check engine light came on.She said that it has happened twice to her now. Every time I try the car everything is fine. We took the car into a repair shop and they checked all the running gear and found no problems and suggested that we take the car to a trany shop. Has anyone have any ideas? The trany shop usually means big bucks
I took it for about a 75 mile trip with a lot of stop and go driving with nothing happening until the way home when slowing for a stop sign it shifted down roughly and from the stop it would not shift into high, I pulled over shut it off and started on my way again and it shifted fine until the next stop. Shut if off again and it was fine the rest of the way home.
I'd start with a fluid/filter change if you don't want to run to a tranny shop. Ensure you use the OEM fluid or you will have more problems! To know exactly what is going on in there, you will need to have a look at the codes in the TCM. Other than a tranny shop, the dealer and some small shops, can do this. Call around for a price quote to read the faults. The 700 code only lets you know that the TCM has detected a fault.
P0700 is the way trans codes will present in engine diag mode. If your scanner is capable, you need to access the trans menu. If it throws solenoid codes, watch your CVI's. If they look good, it's gonna need a solenoid pack (replaceable w/o trans removal). I'm betting that's the issue, as I've replaced lots of them.
