Installing 2003 2.7 engine into 2000
I bought a 2000 Intrepid with a blown 2.7 (100,000 miles) and did some looking on the net about the oiling problem and all. I decided to install a 2003 engine out of a low miles wreck (57,000 miles). The following parts are needed from the old engine or it won't work. Top hat from the intake including the throttle body and sensors, passenger side exhaust manifold, flexplate/flywheel, cam tone sensor (the rivets on the late model engine have to be drilled out but it CAN be done without removing the timing chain and without contaminating the engine with filings) under the drivers side valve cover, and the knock sensor (stud can be removed WITHOUT removing a cylinder head by using a female torx socket on a 1/4 inch ratchet after removing retaining nut hold-down then replace with your old one). The hole in the block for the knock sensor is threaded for the old style sensor and for the new style stud. After all the above the car starts and runs fine. I filled it with 10W30 full senthetic and test drove it to Richmond this weekend (750 miles round trip). It got 32 on the highway using cruise but only 27 with the daughter driving it (she doesn't use the cruise). By monitoring the tach I found that the lock up on the converter only seems to engage and stay engaged when you leave the speed constant.A minimum amountof playing with the gas pedal really hurts the miliage on this car. I usually drive 10 over whatever is posted so this wasn't granny miles.
