Default stuck in park

I have a 2002 intrepid with a column shifter. Recently the car gets stuck in park and rocking the car, stomping on the brake and forcing the shifter doesn't seem to release it. All of a sudden you try it and it seems to effortlessly leave park (sometimes after quite a few minutes). Any ideas??

Default RE: stuck in park

next time it happens, slowly step on the brake pedal and listen for a "click" near the column. your car has a lockout in the column so you cant shift unless your foot is on the brake, theres an electrical solenoid/actuator that is in the column that locks it in park ntil it unlatches. sounds to me like the actuator is going bad.
