Default 2.7 liter problems

Hello, I'm hoping to get some advice on a car I'm currently fixing. The car is a 2000 Intrepid 2.7 liter VIN letter U. The problem is this guys' wife ran it low on oil ( 3 to 4 quarts ) and it jumped time bending eight intake valves. My guess is it was low enough on oil that the timing chain tensioner bled down. The car has 40K on the clock and I'm wondering if I can replace the valves, timing components, engine bearings, and timing chain tensioner and be O K. My concerns are the pistons; if they bent the valves are they shot? I haven't taken the heads off yet to see the piston damage. The worst case I think would be a rebuild kit standard bore and bearings. What do you think? Better yet what would you do? thanks for looking any help will be greatly appreciated.

Scrap it and buy a 3.5l.... by the time and money you invest in the 2.7l you could have bought a 3.5 with about the same mileage and less headaches
