Hey, new to the forum, love the forum, what a help! Any way i have a 2000 dodge intrepid, of course the 2.7, with 54,000m. Everything has been well maintained. Then a sudden knocking in the engine. Sounds like the top compartment. I read a lot of posts about the 2.7 and its problems. Ok i decided to give it the benefit of the doubt, maybe a bad lifter or something. I did a full flush, pulled the pan and oil screen.didnt look to bad though it was quite a pain. All back together and same old noise. Actually i used a quart of lucas too! Just wondering if my engine is done already or would it be worth going in the top or whatever advice anyone has. Thanks.

 

as much as i know that is how my problem started, and it got louder and bang it started to over heat and stopped and since then till now everyone has been said to me to get new engine.... no one wants to check my car i still clean it like its first day i bought it, it has been a year now that its dead

 

I got a chance to check the oil pressure, and all is fine. idles at 20-25psi, and with throttle up at about 2 rpms or alittle more it runs at 60-75psi. All is well as far as oil pressure. knocking is coming mostly from underdrivers side valve cover.a friend of mine said he is almost sure it is the timing tensioner. Not sure. I will be taking the valve cover off tomorrow. I will update. Chow! open to all input! Thanks

 

My Intrepid is doing the same thing and i am wondering if you have found out anything yet? and i tryed to take the top of the motor off but i dont know how to?? any help?????
