Three malfunctioning codes
Hi
I probably don't need to tell you that as you will figure it out by yourself - I don't know much aboutcar repair, changing oil and filters by myself is where my expertise stops.
I have Intrepid 2000, 2.7 liters. I got that famous check engine sign following some strange sound under the hood.
I borrowed ET9620 scan tool and got the following error codes:
1 - P0720 Output speed sensor circuit malfunction
2 - P0731 Gear 1 ration incorrect
3 - P0700 Trans control sys malfunction
where the P0700 was classified as pending.
What I do thinkis that the first error is not the cause for remaining two as my speedometer failed today while the strange noise I am having is there for few weeks already.
Could somebody give me more deatils about the errors 2 and 3 and whichone is causing which.
I am also wondering is that something any car mechanic canfix or I need to go to Chrysler/Dodge.
Thank you
ditto DESOREESAVENGER, and the parts are inexpensive. You can also check codes out by turning the ignition key to the on position (don't start the engine) three times to bring up codes. Make sure you disconnect the negative (black) battery cable before installing the sensors. Your codesmay clear after the replacement.
Appreciate your response guys.
Now, when I go to the store to buy those parts, will the person behind the counterknow what I need when I say I need to buy the "input sensor" and "output sensor" for the transmission, or maybe there is adifferentname for it.
Thanks very much.

Yes, they should know what you want just by giving them the names of the sensors (input/output speed sensors)

P0700 Trans control sys malfunction
P1684 The battery has been disconnected within the last 50 starts
Hope you don't mind, I just wish to be sure, do you still think that the ouput speed sensor is the cause of the trouble.
I am saying it becasue
- the ignition key code retrieval method is not reporting the output speed sensor malfunction
- my speedometer failed today but my troubles are weeks old
Thanks again
Well, let me put it to you this way: I have a 2002 Grand Caravan Sport that had the same codes come up and speedometer reacting strange. After researching this forum, I took the advise from the guys on the messages. I replaced the output sensor (in my case), cleared the codes and all was fine after that. The p1684 just lets you know that your battery has been disconnected and will clear on its own. The output sensor is relatively cheap. I'm sure the folks here on this forum don't mind you asking questions; that is what it is here for

Found out today those two sensors I can only get at mydealer.
Planing to replace them by myself, I don't think I'll causeanykaboom (willtake the negative pole off).
While I am waiting for parts, would anyone be able to send me a link to a schematic/picture showing the location of the both input and output speed sensors for my 2000 2.7 Lintrepid.
Thanks
