Default 99 INTREPID ES Interior Lights

Interior lights are not shutting off. (normally after 20 seconds or so they dim slowly and turn off)Experienced first timeabout a month ago and pulled the fuse (slot 19) and drove it a week or so. Replaced the fuse and magically lights operated properly. Today the gremlin returned. Pulled fuse drove briefly &replaced..no help. Fiddled with rotary light/dimmer switch ..no help. Suggestions? Thanks Les

I assume there is not a door ajar light and the indicator lamp is working (the door light comes on with a door open)...if so, either the dimmer switch or the BCM.

Thanks for the response. The Door Ajar indicators and lights are working properly. I'll try swapping out the dimmer switch (I have a spare). If its the BCM, can I do it myself with a Haynes manual, voltmeter, and 4 thumbs? Les

If you have the VTSS the BCM must be reset with a DRBIII tool ($6000 tool!) before you can start your engine. This makes the job dealer only

There are a few other things to check first:
1. Will the lights go out when you arm the alarm?
2. Will they go out after 15 min (with doors closed)?

Let me know

KurtThe offending lights are the ones that normally go "On" when a door is opened or the Headlight Sw rotary dial is put in the "Dome" light position. 2 Map, 2 Courtesy (front), 2 Courtesy (rear). After closing a door, the Odometer light times out as it should, and "door ajar" light goesoff . The maddening thing is the problem occured a month ago and then disappeared after I pulled the fuse, and replaced it after a few days. Another tidbit.. since pulling the interior light bulbs , my remote control garage door opener seems to have the proper range. When thebulbs were"in" and "on" the range shrunk by 2/3.Les

Yup, it sounds lik the BCM. If you do not wish to fix it, I think I may have a work around. It involves a little re-wiring, and when done, the lights will come on when you open the driver door (only) and/or when you turn them on via the switch. It's a better option than no lights at all, but involves a little work and system modification. E-mail me if you want to know.
