Electrical Problem
A couple of weeks ago in wet weather the radio on my wifes 2002 Intrepid started to have problems the symptoms is/was that it appeared to be resetting itself meaning the clock would flash back to zero time of no time, the radio also stopped working although if you turned it off you could hear what sounds like a motor turning but I really believe is really the sound of electric current. After a couple of hours everything started working again until she went to the car wash. When she got home I started to look into it sure enough it seems to be an electric short. My first try was to pull the fuse for the radio, the radio while no audio still sounded like it was on. So I put the radio fuse back in and started pulling fuses one at a time until I got to fuse 19 (Interior Lights) when the radio shut off entirely. This was a friday night. The car dried out over the weekend and when I put the fuse back in on Sunday everything was fine. The next friday came and sure enough back to the car wash for the weekly cleaning and the problem started all over again.
I am pretty good with cars and do a lot of my own work. I had some crazy problems with my corvette and found that the wires in the acordian of the door was shorting out. So I checked the intrepid but not dice everythings intact. I haven't gone through the grounds yet but with a power feedback I don't it is a ground problem. What I suspect is that there is a common connector either under the hood or chassis that is corroding. Before I bring it to the dealer does anyone have a clue if there is a common connector that has the interior lights, audio associated wiring? I checked the manual but all the drawings are individual so it is hard to tell. The one component I see in common is the body control module but since that sits beind the fuse box and under the dash and is not getting wet.
Any advice would be appreciated.
