Default 1999 2.7L transmission question

Hello - My floor shifter cable seems to be locked in place. I got the car home stuck in 1st gear after hotwireing it past the nuetral safety switch(had to re-start). The shifter lost the ability to manually pull it into 1st gear, but didn't change the tranny at all. Now the cable has poped off the attach point on the floorshifter and is stuck in 1st(frozen-will not move back up through the range). I am going to pull the pan to see what I can see. Can I see the cable form here to see what is going on? Or is this a sign of a tranny gone south? Worked / shifted great all the time, up untill tonight.

Could it be the manual shift/rooster comb? Shoudl I disconnect at the transaxle and see if I can move the detent lever on the tranny case? Anyone?

More than likely you have a bad shift cable. It's not uncommon on an Intrepid. Disconnect it at the trans and try to move the shift lever there. If it moves you need a cable.
