What is this crazy sound?
My girlfriends 2000 Intrepid makes a very loud noise at speed I can't seem to track down. I always thought it was a bad muffler, because that's what it sounds like... as you go faster, especially above 45. It makes a loud "WAAAAAAAAA" ("A" as in autumn, not apple". Here's what I know so far:
1. It's not engine speed speed specific. If I put it in park and hit the gas, it purrs like a kitten.
2. Not tires or a bad alignment, just had both done today.
3. Not bad wheel bearings, they checked out fine.
4. Last but not least, the weirdest symptom: while on the highway, traveling above 50, if I make a quick lane change to the left, the noise disapears. Does NOT do the same if I'm changing to the right.
Any ideas?
