Thumbs down BAD Engine Knock

Hey All! My fiance and I just purchased a 99 Intrepid that's in REALLY good condition. One problem! There is a loud engine knock in the upper right hand corner of the motor... We figured that it was the hydraulic lash adjusters because there were a few REALLY bad ones... So we replaced them and put it all back together, and ONCE AGAIN - We have the knock. Has anyone had this problem? My fiance is thinking that the valve isn't opening all the way so it has no pressure on the rocker arm and it is just banging away. Anyone have any ideas? We only paid 100$ for it because the lady didn't know what was wrong, so it would be awesome if we could get it fixed... Any help would be much appreciated! Thank you.

Tara

2.7 with a bad engine. Imagine that, never heard of this problem ... lol. How did you determine the valve isn't opening all the way. To you mean it's not closing all the way and you have a lot of clearance between the rocker and the valve? If so sounds like a bent valve or a dropped guide or a dropped seat. your noise would be a loud ticking noise for the clearance. But the knocking noise could be the valve hitting the piston. thats a GREAT price on the car $100. you could junk it for way more, so you're definitely not out if you can't fix it.

That's what I mean! I was a bit tipsy last night - sorry... He thinks it's not closing all of the way.

I didn't see anywhere that its a 2.7L engine. Could have been a 3.2 or 3.5L engine and they could have turn the rocker shaft and cover up the oil passage holes.
