My interior lights in my 2003 Dodge Intrepid stay on when the door is shut,come on by themselves when I'm in or not in the car causing the battery to drain. I have spent many a day getting the car jumped. Sometimes the interior lights will flicker continuously while I'm driving then stop. Does anyone know what the problem is and can an amateur repair it? lo l

 

It may be as cheap as a door switch, or as much as a BCM. That's the computer that controls lights, bells, alarm, instruments etc. Do you know how to use a multi meter and own one? If not you can try throwing partsat it, but that can get expensive.

I do not know how to use a Multi-Meter and never heard of such a thing until you replied to my thread,but I am willing to give anything a shot once to save money. Is the door switch easy to replace and should it be the first thing I try? I definitely want to take a step by step approach if possible. I appreciate any help you can provide.

There is more than one door switch. To isolate an intermitAnt problem, sometimes it's best to disable all the switches first then see if the problem reocurs. If not start hooking one at a time back up until the fault occurs again.

As for the multim. you could buy one for about 50 for an ok one and the read the book that comes with it. Once you understand how to use the basic functions, then I'll give aditional info... It's just too much to try and teach and help via typing....sorry. I'll also tell you to look for the holy Grail at the top of the second gen fourm. It has a link to a second gen manual complete with schematics. Youbwill need to have a copy of this when we continue.
