Default My solution to Oil light flickers, P0172/5 and rpm hesitation

I recently bought a 2002 Intrepid SE with the 2.7L engine and 85K miles. It was in near perfect condition and for a good price and I always loved the car. The dealer had an oil change sticker showing the oil was changed a week ago with 5W30, not sure what brand though.

1. Soon after the oil light started flickering only when hot and at an idle. My idle rpm is around 550-650, no noises and still drives good. I keep checking the dip stick though for any signs of sludge. I intend to do an oil change with Mobil Synthetic but in the meantime I added some Seafoam to the oil to help breakdown any sludge buildup.

Solution. I did the oil change to Mobil Super Synthetic 10W30 with a Mopar filter. The oil pressure light would still blink at hot idle. So I changed the pressure sending unit. Still the oil light would blink at hot idle. So I decided to vent the switch connection. I drilled a 1/16" hole at the base of the plastic on the connector end and re-install. So far for two weeks no more light. Never did check my actual pressure at idle though.

2. My CEL came on and the codes were P0172 & P0175 and according to Autozone it is a rich/lean condition in bank 1 & 2. I have since installed new NGK V-Power 4306 plugs and STP air filter. It still had the original Champion platinum plugs & filter. I cleared the codes but they came back on today.

Solution. After researching and decided that there is no MAF sensor in my car, I decided to clean the MAP sensor, since it serves the same function. I unscrewed it and took it out, but it looked different from the pics I saw online. Only to realize part was left in the intake. So basically my sensor was broken in two. I re-attached the two parts using regular bathroom caulk to make a tight seal and re-install. Now two weeks gone and no more CEL. Maybe later I'll buy a new MAP sensor.

3. The car is very hesitant to go much past 2000RPM even though I try and push it. On a gradual acceleration it will go past 2000 but if I were to floor it momentarily to force a kick-down it will hesitate. For everyday driving it barely goes past 2000RPM, always between 1500-2000.

Solution. Not sure what the solution was, the oil change or the MAP sensor, but now the engine revs are much better and uniform.

So hopefully this can help another person solve there problem.
