Default 1998 Intrepid fuel gage going crazy

Help, my fuel gage is going to full then to empty dinging then going to full
and back to empty again. it is not always rythmic but it is steady. is it
the sending unit or is it something in the dash? has anyone ever had this problem or heard of it?
where should I start to look.
thanks
Andy

My 2000 used to do this alot. I put in fuel system cleaner over the next 4 or5 fill-ups and that took care of the problem.

it could be your fuel level sensor, (sending unit) what ever you want to call it....its kind of a pain in the *** to do .....you have to drop the tank.....if i remember right you have to disconnect the rear sway bar and exhaust before you lower the tank.......the fuel level sensor is part of the fuel pump.....

and there could possibly be a flash update for the controller....not positve tho...
