This is an old question. However, the answer is that p1684 means the battery has been disconnected within the last 50 starts. I don't think there's anything to worry about.
It actually means the memory has been cleared within the past 50 cycles and doesn't indicate a fault. This code by itself shouldn't keep the ck engine light on. The light should cycle out after engine start.
