Default Intrepid reliablity...

Ok well this isn't really over the Intrepid but its cousin (kinda) the 300M... since they share the same engines (3.5L) and transmission( do they lol?) how well are they with holding up? we were advised to buy a car before some crap happens with our credit due to our move so we've been looking for a cheap car to buy. i found a 1999 300M for 7k at a local Chrysler dealership. its fully loaded and everything but my parents are kinda discourage by its mileage...it has 98,000 on it but it looks mighty clean.. is there anything we should be worried about or check out? or problem area's with the drivetrain?

I have a 2001 Intrepid with the 2.7L, and other then replacing the A/C condenser and oil galley plugs in the motor replaced, it is tip-top at 94,000 miles. The old lady hit a deer the other day, so it's in the body shop right now. I got the car in '02 w/34,000 on it and 60,000 have been put on since and I have no issues...sludge, etc.

ouch that sucks man sry... yea i've known about the 2.7L having sludge issue is why i wont let my parents get one...just because of the fact that they are known for it... i love the cars but dont really like the engine and plus i'll be moving out and what that means is my parents wont take care of the car lol... so i just want peace of mind...so the 3.5L is there...more power... but my parents aren't keen on buying a car with almost 100,000 on it whereas i have no problems so its just yea lol... parents just need to hear people that have good stories like yours...

Your 5-speed Neon sounds cool. I'd get a stick car again just so my wife couldn't drive it! My last stick car was an '87 Charger 2.2L. I had a bigger cam in it, hi-po computer & clutch, and 14" alloy rims from my '84 Charger 2.2L. Like a dope, I gave it to my brother cuz he needed a car & it wound up getting junked. [:@] I did race it @ E-town & it got photographed at the starting line with an ugly green Omni and was in the '92 Mopar Performance catalog.

My Mom was never the best at driving stick. She had the '87 first (it was bought new), and she needed a new clutch by 20,000 miles. She had a nasty habit of riding the clutch, even though she would never admit to it.
