Default 99 Intrepid ATC problem - no heat

My Intrepid quit providing heat. I ran the ATC thru the diagnostics and no errors were reported. It will provide heat shortly after the diag. test but then nothing but cold air. Does anyone have any suggestions besides replacing the ATC? Is there a temp sensor which could have failed?
I miss the good old manual temp. controls.

I also had intermittant trouble with the A/C. it would send a blast of hot air every now and then. Its definitely something with the auto temp control.
The car is not over-heating, it is running at normal operating temp. and the fluid levels are fine.
I was told there is a flap that opens to allow cold air to mix with the heat to obtain the desired temp. and the flap may be opening too much letting all cold air in. If this is true it may be possible that the temp. sensor is bad or flap control is bad.

My 97 has the same prob, and has been doing it for 2 years now. I live in Fl and so it really is low on my priority list. I would like to know what you find out though so I could take a look at mine! If you find anything out, please post it.
Thanks,
kurt

Dodge told me the ATC costs $200 and several hours labor to get to it because you must remove the dash. I decided to work on it myself. I removed several items including the radio. I found a picture of the ATC with temp. sensor on the web. I discovered it was the very first item I removed from the dash. There is a small fan attached to the backside, near the fan ****, which had dirt and fuzz in it. I cleaned and lubed it and it works fine now.
I saved myself hours of work for nothing and a $200 non-refundable part if I listened to the Dodge serviceman.

Try the link below for parts, it usually shows photos. My unit has a **** on left, 3 little vent slots below the **** and then the buttons and display, all in black.
The fan is directly behind the back side of the vents and the temp. sensor is in the middle of the vents. I read today where other people have cleaned out the lint and their A/C problems went away too.

Thanks for the link. I unfortunately have the one in the dash. The sensor isn't in my control panel, but above the glove box under a small emblem. I'm not sure how sensitive the sensor is, but I had considered giving it a blast of shop air. Here is a link to mine

Thanks for the input

Have you run through the calibration? The service manual tells you step by step how to do this with both MTC and ATC. It sounds like your blend doors are out of alignment.

I celaned the sensor, no help. I ran the diganostic and it was fine. As I turn the heat ****, I can hear the air flow rerouting (and I know the actuator is good). As for a calabration, I looked in the service manual, and the only procedure listed, that I could find, for an ATC, was via the DRB scann tool. I do not own one of these (I don't think I'll be buying one of these $6,000 tools anytime too soon!), so I couldn't try the calabration. I think it may be the heater core is pluged up and needs a flush because when I first turn it on, there is warm air. After a second or two, it starts to cool off slowly, untill its barley warm at all. If I turn the fan off for about 20 min, and do it again, I get the heat for a moment ect. As I said before, I live in FL and it really isn't too bad tempature wise so I think I will leave it alone for now. Thanks for your input.
