thats funny i have both the same cars only my intrepid is a 1998 ... but i think i would check with a salvage yard or somewhere before i did the swamp because i thought the intrepid was the same 98-01 02-04 i do believe there was a change in somethin for sure i kno that because most of the engines from 98-01 do blow or crack like mine right now im having a 3.2 from a 98 concorde put in mine..

Forget the 2.7 and go with 3.2/3.5L

Rumor has it that the changes they made in the 2.7 from 02 on are oil flow in the engine and the engine managment. So if you use the 2.7 from a 04 stratus you might have to lift the ecu also. I don't know if this makes a difference or not but i think the 2.7 in the stratus is mounted side to side like a traditional front driver while the 2.7 in the tred is mounted like a traditional rear whell drive car.

You will need to do several mods to get that motor to work. My 2000 blew the 2.7 at 116000 The dealer said thats was a great life for the 2.7 since there are more blown in the junkyards than running due to flaws in engine design. i put a 3.2 in mine that had only 18000 miles on it that I paid 2700 for installeed. The car lasted about a year before the timming belt broke taking out a few valves with it. I replaced the valves and timing belt but she still not 100% correct. Its for sale if you love these cars

We must have a freak of nature. The 98 that I bought for my daughter has nearly 140K on it now and no problems other than burning some oil (knock on wood).....I'm in the process of figuring out whether it's worth putting any more money into the car (front suspension shot and a couple other minor things).
