camshaft positioning sensor
I own a 1999 Intrepid 2.7recently the check engine light came on, I took the car to a local auto parts store and they used a hand held analyzer and said the camshaft positioning sensor had gone bad. My question is where is this sensor located and is it a DIY project or should I have a shop do the job.?
I looked at the PDF in the post at the top of the 2nd gen fourm titled the holy grail. The page is 8I-3 that way you can se the picture. Is seems easy, I know the crank sensor is, but never changed the CAM sensor. It looks just as simple though. It should be the same for your 99 (the manual is for a 02) and here is an exerpt:
REMOVAL - 2.7L
The camshaft position sensor is mounted in the
front of the head.
(1) Disconnect electrical connector from sensor.
(2) Remove camshaft position sensor screw.
(3) Without pulling on the connector, pull the sensor
out of the chain case cover.
