Racing 'faster' cars...
I have a friend with a bick riviera, prob. somewhere between 2000 and 2004, not really sure, and he wants to race. The rivieras got a v8, and I with a neon have a little 2.0(dohc) His is an automatic though, and I have a 5 spd, what would my chances be, and how would I increase them??
Ok first of all they stopped making the riviera in 99 and its a supercharged V6. I found this online for your viewing pleasure:
so that car has a 4 speed auto tranny and 240 hp against your 2.0L, basically he will destroy you NOW. But that can always be changed with mods and of course turboing your car lol
1996 brought an increase in horsepower on the supercharged versions to 240hp and 280 lb-ft (380 N·m) of torque. 1997 saw revisions to the suspension which lightened the car and gave it more nimble handling. For 1998, the supercharged engine became standard.
With a larger engine than the neon, I wouldn't doubt it was heavier. but you think for every 100lbs less/more you weigh you gain/lose 1/10th of a second. so I've heard. I'd still go with the spray or turbo it, a I4 against a v6, almost no compititon especially with over a 100 hp advantage
yes it does weigh alot more but you have to remember the riviera is a supercharged V6. So it has some power.

An 8th Gen Riviera weighs in at 3800lb's...but he'll still kill you because of that nice 280tq from that supercharged 3800 V6. You'll have to break into the 14's to beat him...it should run similar to a Grand Prix GTP which is usually in the high 14's stock...
Oh, and you have a SOHC unless you did a head swap of some kind...
