Advantage of high revving cars?

RE: Advantage of high revving cars?
I assume you are comparing a 5 speed to a 6... The reason for a 6 speed is to keep you in your power band. Most 5 speed car dyno graphs will show the power starting to fall off toward the end of the gear. With more gears, usually shorter, you will be able to maximize your power.
Higher redlines can be good or bad... If your not creating power up that high there is no need for it. Different motors are designed differently. I have a buddy that was making 500+whp in his H22 swapped accord. He redlined at 9.5k! He made power all the way to redline. I also used to own and older 325e BMW, straight 6cyl with the EVO motor. It was a high torque low rev motor. This think redlined at 4500 rpms. Didn't need to go any higher since all the power was down low. I miss that car... talk about *** happy. I used to drift that car 10 years ago, way before the F&F. lol

yeah and just by comparing cars you would find out that 6-speeds and high rpm motors are beneficial in some way, shape, form....the gto is 6-speed...the honda s2000's redline at like 8,000...virtually all your expensive sports cars have 6-speeds...and they all have really high redlines (if they arent v-8's or v-10's)..its really about matching up your powerband on your motor with your gearing in your transmission like somebody said earlier...but just b/c its a 6-speed doesnt mean its faster than a 5-speed...drag cars usually only have 2 or 3 gears b/c thats all they need...
