Default key in ignition chime?

I have a 2000 Dodge Neon that I just purchased. I noticed that the chime will ring if the engine is off and the driver door is open. This is regardless if the key is in the ignition or not.

Has anyone had this problem? Is there a way to disable the key in ignition alarm? Or what could be the problem?

I dont see why thatd happen. theyre only suppose to go off as long as the key is in the ignition. even in the off position. Ill talk to my dad cuz hes turned off the chimes for door open, key in ignition, and seatbelt on quite a few cars

i don't know anything about neons, but my dodge ram would chime when door was open and key was in the ignition. i hated that and read on a forum somewhere that it was controlled by a pair of wires that went to the ignition switch. when the key was in, it closed the circuit. the forum said to remove the covers around the steering wheel and switch, and unplug the little 2 wire connector. i did and i love it - no more door open chime, yet i still have all the other chimes such as seat belt, low fuel, lights on.

i suspect you have the same design of ignition sensor switch, and its faulty, stuck in a closed position, you might be able to expose it and unplug it like on the ram.

It is for sure the key in ignition chime. I did some investigation and I think I have come up with a solution. There is a main plug connector that attaches to the ignition switch behind the steering column cowling. With some "playing around" I discovered that by cutting a light blue thin wire near the bottom of the connector, the alarm goes off. Everything else seems to work just fine. I believe that the internal switch has gone bad and I have cut the power to that switch.
