You could buy a brand new 2.4 for waaaay less then $4,000. A brand new shortblock costs $900 from S & P, then $400 for a new cylinder head, then say another $600 for new valves, guides, springs, retainers, camshafts, etc...now your up to $1,900 and the only other things you'll need are an oil pan, water pump, timing belt, tensioner, gaskets, intake manifold, turbo manifold/turbo (maybe another $700 for all those parts) and a few little assorted things...now you have a brand new SRT-4 spec. 2.4L turbo for $2,600...you would still be missing a lot of things you would need for a complete swap, but the engine would be brand new.
