It's just weird though because everyone thinks my car has atleast 175 h/p. I dont get it, i can beatmy brothers heavily modded 7.5 liter truck. My buddies 3.8 v6 monte carlo, im neck and neck with subaru imprezas (base models), i just raced my buddies 07 chevy cobalt with 153 hp i believe, the car just lunges when i floor it and just keeps going, how is this possible??! lol, and im not one of those guyys who confused sound with speed, the car actually moves quite fast, just sounds really weird when ppl say 123 h/p AT BEST, how is it possible i am waisting all these other cars with way more h/p and torque on 30+ mph punches (of course not off the line)?
Its possible because the Neon weighs in at 2600lb. Subaru Imprezes are pretty slow and will run a mid-16 seconds on the 1/4 mile, and a 2.2l Cobalt will run about the same as well. So its not suprising that you can beat them, even though they have more power, you have a lighter car.

Our engines are not B series or K series Honda engines that respond amazingly well to any form of modification. Our motors suck as far as bolt on power goes, thats why its so difficult to break the "200whp" barrier N/A, there are only a dozen Neons that have done it, and none of them are 2nd Gens (that I'm aware of). Your not going to see anything significant as far as power gains are concerned until you start doing real engine upgrades (meaning not bolt-ons), thats the hard truth that we all have to live with. I will say this, it is IMPOSSIBLE to even reach anywhere near 160whp with just bolt ons, I have an R/T with almost all the bolt-ons (only missing a LTH) and an aggressive camshaft and I'm still pretty far off (probably in the 145whp-150whp range...but I dont really know till I get her dynoed)...it sucks lol.

Neons are quick. Not fast.

Unless they're turbo'd of course.

Motor mounts help on launches.... pretty much it. they wouldnt help him in any other circumstance.

They do help a bit when flooring it... but not enough to make a difference when its driver on driver.

now base neons like the ES, SE, and SXT, stock they are what? 132hp or so? and the r/t is 150hp right? correct me if i am wrong...? my goal is 160-170 WHP.... so far all i have on the motor is a CAI., vibrant dual exhaust, and i will have race MM's very soon as well.... for suspension as it stands now i have a 1.6"-1.8" drop (not sure what the springs are exactly as it was done when i got the car), Vibrant front upper strut tower bar, my car is also equiped with the factory Sway bars... both front and rear... so what is my HP right now and i dont really know what i want to do yet....

Our stock Neons have 132 hp at the crank... and if you have an MTX,you should have at least 113 whp stock. Yes, believe it or not, there isno more than a19 hp drivetrain loss in our cars. And keep in mind that a lot of people do mods to their car and sometimes it hurts them... they think it's faster or it's louder so it seems beefier... but sometimes bad mods happen ya know. But like others said, they proof is in the dyno. And also remember that mods don't add up in hp the way they advertise... it doesn't work that way. You can't say "My intake added 11 hp, and my header added 9 hp, etc..." Mods feed off of each other. Usually, the header won't do much without the other mods, or the 60mm throttle body won't breathe better without the header, etc etc... and most plug wire sets for the Neon are all gimmicks... as long as it has 8000 Ohms resistance and makes it to the plug, so be it.

And for $310-$320, you can send your ECU into Jet and have them re-flash a performance program into it. That's pretty expensive for a flash, but they've been doing it for a couple years now. I wouldn't pay that much money for "ungaurenteed" measly amount of hp though.
