2000 Neon ES Key Stuck in Ignition
ok that happens to my car when it is not in the correct "off" position.... so sometimes what i do is when i am going to turn the car off i hold the release button down, turn the key and pull outward all at the same time and that ALWAYS does the trick for me.... i have a 2001 ES so i dont think that mine is much differenet from yours... but yea.... try that when you go to the the car off next time and let me know..... if worse comes to worse you will just have to replace it.... or try a new key?
I have 3 total keys for the car and I have tried them all. One was still brand new with the paper work from when I got the car. I haven't tried the lock cleaner. I didn't know it even existed. I'm assuming I can get it at any Lowe's or Home Depot? As far as the ignition switch, is that the same as the PRNDL switch? The one on the front of the transmission?
There is a release button? Is that on 2001+? I don't have one of those, unless I am a total space cadet and am missing it.

well im not sure about anything prior to my year but i am pretty sure they put it on the 2000 models b/c it is in my Haynes book and that could DEFINATELY be the reason you are having trouble..... go out and look to see if you have one is should be a crecent-ish shaped button like thing that sits right around the key hole... :-D happy hunting i guess lol... and if you dont press it it wont let the key out so i'd try that....
Well, I replaced the lock cylinder. Total cost for the part from Dodge was $147. It took them about 15 minutes to adjust the lock to my key and it took me about 15 minutes to install it. So far it hasn't stuck on me. The parts guy told me that this is the fix for the problem and he had heard of it before. I just wanted to share my findings with everyone in case they have the same problem. Thanks everyone for your help!
