BIG PROBLEM WITH NEON...HELP
Alright guys, I need to know the seriousness of this situation. Last year I replaced the stock black gauge cluster on my neon with a 2003 white faced gauge cluster with the tachometer on it. I wanted it so i i could see my rmps...well i have a little issue. when i got the gauge cluster off ebay, and had it installed on my car, i found it had 5,000 miles less on this one. Before i had been under the impression that people could match the mileage from the old car if u ever changed the gaughe cluster. So this is what i want to know, what do i now? Can i legally sell this call even though this car says it has 5,000 miles less on it than it really does, i have no legal documentation of the change over, and i dont want to lie to anybody about these miles, what do you guys suggest i can do??? i just dont want to get into legal trouble with the milage....the gauge cluster syas it has 73,000, but really the car has 78,000 miles on it...am i going to be able to tell this car privately or even trade it in now?
its gonna make it alot harder now...a used car dealership might take it off ur hands and give u a reason why he wont give u as much for it and he would probably sell the car for more than its worth and not say a thing lol..if ur gonna sell it privatley i suggest u explain urself to whoever comes to see it
Inmy experience, you can get almost any car dealership to take your car on a trade (just be honest and tell them it has 5,000 miles more on it), and most of them won't care... they'll deal with it their own way, whether it's re-flashing the memory in the cluster, noting the mileage variation on the title, or whatever... I know this from my own experience by doing exactly what you did, and everyone seemed cool with it.
my friend did the same to his car. all you have to do is be completely honest to the private buyer or the dealer. you just gotta think about selling to the dealer, you're not gunna get as much as you think if you keep the mods. but its not a big deal at all as long as you know the miles
alright great. my parents were flipping on me today though. my mom remembered how i changed the gaughe cluster last summer, and she was like unless u have a documentation of the change over, you cant sell that vehicle privately now because youll have to selling it as "UNKNOWN" miles, which devalues its worth. SO they got wicked pissed, she was like, you mine as well just trade it in now because you arent going to get its worth now ebcause of that, but i think she was overreacting.
hahaha yea but if its a private sale you can claim w/e miles you want on it well at least by me you can... and im sure that someone will understand that that cluster is from a diff. car... if they dont then well check if there is a VIN # on it....
You won't get that much out of the neon anyways. So I don't know what your mom was getting bent out of shape on.

well i think shes more mad that i put so much money into it, and she knows that the neon is in fact not a great valued car, so either way im never going to get for it what i put into it, i put in atleast 5,000 into this car on odds and end ****, and now im lucky if i can get 4500, so i thin thats where shes getting the most of her upset from..but i want this truck if its turns out good after the state inspection, if not though, im going to move on.
