Default Surging

My 2002 SXT is surging and need to know what to look at. Heres the scenario

When I am driving, lets say 50-60 MPH, and the tach at a steady 2000 rpms, it will increase a couple of hundred rpms occasionally then drop back down. Tested it using a good flat road with the cruise control on, it does just like above. I have heard it may be sensor, but which one.

Also is there any mod to increase MPG on this vheicle?

Could be a very small vacuum leak as well.

is it an Automatic or Manual? it could be a clutch problem with the manual but as for the ATX i would think it might just be something simple like a vacuum leak.....

I got a very similar problem

ONLY WHEN THE A/C IS ON. My car (atx) revs up a little and then goes back down. It does this constantly until my car's AC is off. Happens only when i'm highway driving it seems, haven't really noticed it around town...

But it's like...vrooom....VROOM.....vrooom......VROOM....yo u get the idea.

Nope. At the worst you would need to replace an intake manifold gasket, and at the best a vacuum hose came loose or something.
