no it isnt necessary....you can run the spoolboy mod....you have to run your own return lines...modify your fuel canister....get a rrfpr....and maybe some more items to run it without MS....youll want a air/fuel ratio gauge as well....

MS in my opinion would be the way to go...its definately....kooler lol
