Control Arm Bushings
If you don't feel like reading the story, plain and simple i need to replace my control arm bushings right away and do any of you know where i can get a guide online to do it or have you done it yourself? Also how much time am i looking at. Story below...
A few months ago, i replaced my clutch and got a couple of tie rod ends. The mechanic mentioned that my control arm bushings were busted and needed to be replaced, but he said i'd be alright with it for a while. Well a week or so after that i got all new tires, fairly nice tires - 70,000 mile warranty. Anyways about four thousand miles later i got a nail in one of em, so i go into the shop and the guy looks at my right front tire and it's worn completely through on the inside. Wires were showing. I got a new tire, but i need to get my car aligned asap and that can't happen without me replacing the control arm bushings. The shops estimate was like $500 after labor, which i don't have to spend. So have any of you out there replaced the bushings, i'm told it's not that hard. I'm wondering how much time i'd have to spend on it and the easiest way to get the bushings out. If any of you know where i could get a guide to doing it, that would be awesome.
Thanks alot guys - Jon

Look into getting the parts yourself. I had the same problem a while back and I waited but then it gradually got worse to the point where it was just dangerous to drive.
The guy that fixed my car charged me the same price but told me the reason why its so expensive is because you have to buy all new control arms. After I had it done a friend of mine who works for an auto parts store told me that he's sure you can buy the bushings for like fifty bucks.
If you can just get the parts and bring them to your mechanic it'll be way cheaper to do it.
the thing that sucks the most is that its all due to poor design because alot dodge vehicles are designed like that and all of the wieight of the control arm sits on that bushing so its just a matter of timing when its going to go bad.
You can get the bushings at NAPA. mine cost $50 each. According to the manual, you must remove the control arms and press in the bushings with a Arbor press. I was able to get mine in without removal..... so... im not sure which way is "correct" anyway have fun with that.
yeah i replaced both of my lower control arms cost me like 150 and it took like 3 hours but it's not hard to do and if you have the time and the money i sugggest you get the parts and do it your self as far as a online guide i have no idea it's kinda easy to just look under there and see what you have to do or it was for me any ways and yeah you have to buy all new control arms which suck but the other option is some bushing kit that looks like when you put it on your not gonna be able to steer or drive it for that matter so spend the extra money and then do it your self to save some as well
I actually just had these replaced. My control arm bushings were completely separated, when I went in for an inspection they wouldn't pass it so I had to have them done. Lucky for me I knew someone that could do them, the actual bushings were pretty cheap at cost. The labor was the tricky part but hey, when you know someone, just buy them a 6-pack and watch them go and maybe even give them a hand while they're doing it!
