Some 2003 Neon SXT questions
My dh and I just helped our dd get a 2003 Dodge Neon SXT that has over 76,000 miles on it. This is her 1st car and it will be used to help her get back & forth to/from college/home/work (once she has a job, that is!).The carcame with only 1 key and no remote. It has power windows in front with roll-up windows in back and haspower locks. It's missing the owner's manual along with instructions for the CD player and 6-disc changerso I'm looking for some help in answering a few questions about this model/make.
How can we tell if the car is supposed to/meant tohave a keyless remote with it or not? We took the key to an Ace Hardware store in the hopes of getting a duplicate made for it but the salesperson there said the key had a magnet in it so we would have to go to a Dodge dealership to get another key made for it. (FYI - The dealership we got the car from was out of the Dodge stock keys to make a duplicate for us then & there -the salesman wasn't sure when they would have more in stock either. The car salesman said we could go to Meijer or any place that made keys to have a duplicate made for only a couple of dollars which I didn't think was quite true/right based on my own past experience with a few other cars we've owned.) How much does it usually cost to get a keyless remote programmed at a dealership or by a qualified locksmith? How do you find a qualified locksmith for programming a keyless remote?
The 6-disc CD changer looks like it was OEM but we don't know for sure. What we do know is that the lights on it flash and it won't take/accept any CDs. Can anyone tell us how to operate it or is there something wrong with it? (I have a 6-disc CD changer in my '04 Jeep Liberty but it's definitely different than what is in the Neon.)
Does the original owner's manual for a Dodge Neon include operating instructions for the CD player/changer in it or is there another separate manual for it?
TIA for any help/info!

I know there is always keys and remotes being sold on ebay really cheap...
And if you get a manual it'll tell you how to program the keyless remote as well. And yes the manual also goes into detail on the functions of the 6 disc changer. Just not sure by what you descibed if it's broken or not? Hope someone else on here may have a better idea?

The owners manual would offer help on the CD problems. You may be able to pick it up on eBay or someone on here might be able to scan copies of the pages you need onto this thread so you can read them online. The key is supposed to have a remote on it so again you could try eBay, other than that the Dodge dealer should have them. My car only came with 1 key also but the dealership ordered another for me free of charge and I had it in about 5 days I think. As fas as the CD player, my 2004 only has a single disc so the 6-disc changer you have may not be OEM. If not then it would be hard to find out how to fix it. But you could always go to the Dodge dealer and have them replace it with another original CD player/radio. I had to do that with mine after a burnt CD got stuck inside and they said thatsome neon players have trouble with burnt CD's but the replacement player has been fine for abouta year now.
Thank you for the help/info, DouglasSXT and SXTspeed.
The dealership where we got the car IS going to pay for having the extra key made - at least they said to send them a copy of the receipt or fax it to them and they willreimburse us for the cost. I didn't ask them about the keyless remote when we got the car because we didn't know at that time that it should have had one with it. The salesman was new (only on the job for 3 wks) and he thought he hadeverything that went with the car.
Since I have to call the dealership to ask them why the power outlet/cigarette lighter outlet doesn't seem to be working, I'm going to see if they would be willing to programat least 1keyless remote for the car for free once I get one(bought 1 last night on eBay). I'm also going toask if they are willing to reimburse us for the cost of at least 1 keyless remote too, now that I know it should have had 1 with it. (I know thatwe can always program a 2nd remote for it oncewe find/have 1 working keyless remote for it - I learned that much when our son got his 1st car a few yrs. ago and it only had 1 remote for it.) [Found out on our way home from the dealership that the power outlet wasn't working when we tried to plug in a charger for my cell phone and the little red light on the charger didn't come on to show it was working.]
I'm also going to be asking the dealership about the CD player and the disc changer since the car is still under warranty since we just got it. Hopefully, I can talk them into giving us a manual for the car even if it means taking it from another 2003 that they have on the lot. [sm=teetertooter.gif]At least I figure it can't hurt to ask - the worst that can happen is that they tell me no, right?
I did some research online last night & found out the 2003 SXT had an optional 6-disc in-dash CD changer available for $300 when it came out which is why I think itmay be anOEM for the car. It's located on the floor under the dash and enclosed so it matches the rest of the dashboard. It kind of looks like this one I found online.

If you want I can scan and send you the pages you'll need for the cd changerand how to program your keyless remote... I have a manual and it covers both of them in it. PM me your email or if you'd like I'll try to scan them to this thread if interested?
Hope this helps!

I'm sorry, it doesn't go much into detail about trouble shooting. Will it allow you to load a cd into the 6 disc cd changer down below your head unit? Do you have any in there now?I believe when the lights are flashing it means the changer is empty, you need to push the desired number you want it to load in then insert the cd? Think you have the same system I have, and I'm pretty sure that's how mine loads...
As far as we can tell right now, there aren't any CDs in the changer and we haven't been able to insert any either as of yet. I gave my DH a copy of the pages that you sent so hopefully we'll be able to figure things out and/or I'll be after the dealershipto take a look at it.
It's adefinitely easier to try to figure things out with some instructions rather than not having any!
Thank you again for your help, DouglasSXT!
