wait i thought you had to do the on-off-on-off-on-off while holding the trip button for the gauge reset. i havent done it in a while soi dont remember that well.

 

nope you just have to hold the trip button and turn the key to the on position (keep hold of the trip button) until the gauges reset,

 

Don't hold it too long because that's what I did and I had to drive home with the gauge needles completely the other way around.

If you do somehow get them like that, reset the battery and press the trip button numerous times while you do the reset trick...your desperation will kick in and you'll most likely get it on accident.
