Microsoft Rant...
Oh, trust me I know what it means. It's not overrated.
Quoting DevilsReject here:
1.) Halo is one of the finest FPS games ever developed. Is Halo 3 the best? Not at all, but it is one of the all time greatest in the FPS world.
2.) Halo was the first FPS to really create a game that made you want to play it as much for the story as for the killing. Other FPS games were predominantly just shoot em up gore fests. Yes, some had stories, but not as deep or advanced as Halo. It's a great game and the series is something I'd like to continue to enjoy on PC, if Microsucks would stop b.s.ing around and release it for PC.
And was it worth all the hype that they put out...yes it was. I have played Halo since the very first time it came out. Was there for the midnight release of Halo 2 and was there also for the release of Halo 3.

I am a huge Halo fan, but I thought H3 was REALLY freaking short. In comparison to Halo 2 it was a pretty weak and SHORT game.
Gay, i want my $60 bucks back. I should've just rented it.

I forgot to add.....Duke Nukem and 007 Golden Eye were essentially the very first FPS games to make it to a console. Goldeneye was especially popular on the Nintento 64.

.
Halo 2 & Halo 3 should have just been one game, instead of 2. Microsoft milked people for the money, as they knew they could get it....it's why I hate the fact Halo was put out on the Xbox....because the PC gamers....the ones who would really buy this game.....cant.
All console FPS games have aim assist. How accurate or how helpful it is depends on the game. This is why most console gamers would never be able to beat PC gamers in an FPS game on a PC. The Aim Assist or as we call it, aim bots, dont require you to really aim...just point in a general direction. This doesnt mean it doesnt require skill or effort, just requires a little less.
The main reason games like Battlefield and Counter Strike remain popular has zero to do with the game and 100% to do with the modding world for the games. There are so many custom mods that replace the basic game and look that people still continue to play it. Seriously, do a Google search for CS mods and you'll find tons... the game was cool, but the mods make it great..

ok, to devils reject. People still just play CS without any mods. In pro tournaments for tens of thousands of dollars. CPL is an example. Games like quake are just the same. People play it just for the gameplay. Everyonce in a while they play it for the mods. But the mods are part of the game. Its just different game types that are able to be added in my anybody. That is part of game play. And no....Halo is the only one I know of that has aim assist on the console. I haven't played too many FPS games but as far as console shooters go that are played online halo is the only one. So yea....
And to night709,
If halo isn't overrated please tell me why.
1. Don't say story line. Its extremely vague and tells nothing about any of the characters AT ALL. They are just there with names. Tons and TONS of people complained especially about how halo 3 lacked so much story. Half the time I didn't even no where I was. The whole thing where cortana(sp?) would come up on the screen I couldn't understand 25% of it. Not only that, the stuff I did hear didn't make any sense. Who is Master Cheif? It really doesn't say that in the game at all. My friend told me who he is because well...he read the books lol. The characters and everything is just...there. It doesn't go deep whatsoever. Player a shooter like Metal Gear/Solid to get a real story. People are still going over cliffhangers, secrets, trying to find out whats going to happen about games that are years old. The only cliff hanger Halo 2 left sucked. He got on the ship to fight. Ok, thats his job! What thoughts went into your head when that happened to make it great? Halo 3s cliff hanger wasn't good either. He just is going to put himself to sleep and wait? So intense! Oh, and nothing was really original about this story. Just the fact that they found another kind of alien space station in the shape of a halo.
2. Don't say that its challenging. Multiplayer is a lot of, "did I spawn in the right spot" and "I hope the auto-aim doesn't let this guy scan me" and "OH! I have a shield, let me run away and let it recharge then I will still be alive!" Halo 3's single player is harder for sure. But its still just boring. You shoot some, get behind something and wait until your shield comes back...yeaaahhh, soooo hard. The 4 player co-op is extremely easy on and difficulty! Just send 3 guys out and if they die they spawn right back according to the 1 guy who didn't fight. oooo so hard.
3. don't say that this is original. Rocket Launchers, Sniper, Machine gun...Things like plasma grenades are pretty original but thats it. Most of the game play has all been done before. Slayer, CTF, Team Slayer, Assault, Terroritories, all been done before. Not all of them have been done before but most have. The fact that you can make custom games is nothing. Someone just mentioned that there is tons of that on CS.
The things I think that make halo a good game. Its really easy to pick up for anyone. You just have fun playing. Barely any flaws or glitches at all! That is amazing. Oh, and the replay stuff is really fun too lol.

My point is that most console games have these because the controls are not as managed or adjustable as they are on a PC. For example, on my PC mouse, I can configure it to be slow, fast, super fast, super zoom, etc....Consoles are however catching up, but I dont have to customize the game controls to do this. Mymouse will do this for anything.
CS is still very popular, but so is Half Life.....some games just have a great shelf life....but its the mods that bring more and more people into it.
