hahahahaha!! ok, got that settled...

problem one: check the belt/get a new one

problem two: A tapping noise is perfectly normal, as long as it's not too loud. it's just that the piston isn't fully warm and cold metal contracts, so it 'wobbles' slightly in there, nothing to worry about. it's a normal noise

Problem three. make sure you have the right weight oil in there 5w or 10w -30

make sure the belt isn't over tightened.

and if a shop does the oil they probably used 10w-30

ask for 5w-30 and leave 1 qt out and put a qt of lucas oil additive for cars

well, you might want to invest in them. regular champions will do, but if you want to step it up at 12 bucks a plug, go iridiums

Which belt did you have replaced, the AC/PS belt or the Alternator belt? If the squeaking is coming from the alternator belt and its properly tightened with a new belt, then the problem is the bearings for the alternators pulley. Like Kalevra said, the "tapping" you heard is just normal valvetrain noise for a Neon, so you dont need to wory about it.

As for the engine "working too hard at idle", did this woman give any justifications for her statement? In Any case though, its good to change the spark plugs every 30k miles and the wires if they seem worn in any way.
