Gilfriend is looking at getting a neon. 04 or 05. Wants an SXT, and a sunroof. Other than that open to anything.

How is reliability of these cars. What should i look for. Any service or anything i should do when i we get it. Anything to look out for basicallly. problem area's, neglected area's, etc.

my first thing to look at is if its a ATX make sure that is good, its easy to abuse them...... and dont overpay

 

I would say they're usually okay. Pretty reliable if you don't start modding them or beating on them hard. If she gets an ATX, at the very minimum install a transmission cooler and change the air filter.

Other than that, I would say they're decent. Ask graphite, he's owned like 4

 

I did a lot of research before I bought my car. I looked into consumer reports, reliability reports and car history reports on every single car I considered buying. Trust me, there were a lot! It gave me a headache actually cuz none really met my standards. Neons showed the best reliability and had a great price tag with low miles on average. I can't agree with this any more.

Just check around for some prices. Neons don't hold anything on value. I was looking at a price that I could sell my Neon ES for and I was disappointed at the prices they go for. Drive it around and make sure the tranny is good.

 

I know you don't mean that.

 

They have average saftey ratings...nothing to be impressed about, but they arent death traps either.

 

unless you drive like a maniac then anything becomes a death trap...
