Default cold start rpms

Since it is getting colderoutside I figure I will ask you guys what RPM's you usually shift at after a cold start. I usually try and keep it to 2500 max, and if I try extremely hard I can shift at 1500 and go 20mph in 2nd gear lol as long as no one is behind me....of course I was in a rush today and I pulled onto a main road with traffic coming down, I believe the rule is if you have at least 5 seconds then go, and I figured there was about 10 so I went, of course the guy was speeding, so I revedto 4k on a cold motor through 1st and 2nd and then down to 3500 or 3k in 3rd.

I never really check my rpms, just listen for when I need to shift. Guess I better make that effort to shift at lower rpms with a cold motor! But I do make sure I have plenty of time to get on the road when its cold, even if I have to wait all day for traffic.

lol yeah. It is a lot easier to drive a cold car when you have a manual, I wish I had one. I guess I could manually shift my auto, but thats sort of dumb imo.

I was talking to people about Pontiac GTO's and they say they shift at about 2500, but with heads and cam and other mods to try and get it down to 2k, and I was like wtf, I can barely do that in my Neon, how do you guys do it in a GTO lol

I usually take it easy on my car til its warmed up. So I generally won't rev it up past about 3k until my engine is warmed up to operating temperature.

How about... Not be in a hurry and just sit in the parkling lot for about 1-3mins! Then take off

Usually do sit for a minute or so. But the engine is still cold, 1-3 mins doesn't make much difference. Besides, driving it warms it up faster.

usually I just get in the car and go, no warming up before hand unless there is frost on the windows. Usually takes it about 5 minutes to get to approximate operating temperature.
