Default Car got stolen!!! Holy S***!

Ok, i typed a post just now and apparently something happened and i lost the whole message... so long story short... car got stolen in the middle of the night. they stole my laptop with gps receiver... (they're in for a suprise with the laptop because it has a crappy repaint and no sound) and they also stole my radar detector Escort x50 blue led (approx $250). So i found my car about a block or two away (thanks to my 2 way security alarm). So i think what happens is that i forgot to lock my car last night so my alarm didn't go off. Also i always keep a spare key in the center console (I'm stupid) and apparently they found that out and drove a block or two away where it's darker. So the thing is... now they have a copy of my key... what do you think i should do? change the door lock? what about the ignition area? where you start the car? can that by changed? oh yeah, i did do the transponder bypass thing though... so technicially i dont' have the transponder security... i did it because i need the remote start for cold weather. Any suggestions? Thanks guys... i'm so bummed out right now... and i still need to get to nebraska this wed (without a gps... and radar detector... i guess it's gonna be a slow trip with a book of road atlas)...

best thing to do right now is to take out the bypass. That way they can't do anything. Unless they have the VIN the dealership won't reprogram the key. In the long run i'd replace all tumblers and ignitions so you have new keys.

your right, pretty dumb to have a spare in the center console. I'm sure its a lesson learned though.

yeah, i can disable the bypass... also, the spare key that they have is a regular spare key... no chip on it... it's usable because i had the bypass on it. how much do you think it'll run to change the tumblers and ignition? it is a do it yourself thing? or do i have to go to the dealership... also i'm concerned about they ableto open my car door and just trashing the interior of it. Thanks....

damn, sorry to hear that... but check the houses around where you found it. because I think it's stupid for them to park it around the block unless they lived there. I would call the police and have them investigate alittle, they might come up with some prints

already called the police... but they didn't really do anything except take a statement and said that they'll keep a lookout for my laptop and radar... which i doubt they'll find it... I just took off the door handles and i think i might just bondo up the keyhole and repaint it, since i'm going to repaint it anyway... and then maybe later i'll get new handles with new key and then swap the ignition later... but anyone know how much that's gonna run? and anyone has any other suggestion as to what i can do to prevent them from getting into my car again since that now that they have a duplicate of my key?

Im actually the same way I leave my set out in my sxt once an awhile and my husband always has his inside . I also leave my wallet out sometimes when I forget to being it in . But since I got my alarm I always set it when I come in no matter what. Glad to hear you got it back in good condtion and I would go to the dealer and have them change everything they need to .

i would suggest getting an alarm that locks the car automatically even if you forget. That's what mine does, and I also have the 2 way transmitter that works awesome, so that a plus that you already have. I have run outside to see weird people standing and staring at my car sometimes, when I come outside, they just leave. Creepy

sucks that your car got broken into, but at least they didn't take the whole car, or trash it..
