Default remind me again of the ideal wheel off-set range?

Found these, probably not gettin any rims till next year, but I like this simple 5 spoke design, tapered spokes and my fav size rim..16's.. 2 inches up from my stock steelies, but slightly better daily driver functionality than the show-y 17's and 18's... altho I really like black with polished lip better...

..but these have an off-set of 35... seems low for the Neon using non-SRT suspension...thought the ideal offset was between 38 and 42? ...yes? ..no?

35mm should be ok.... you have a +/- 5mm of offset. The prefered is +/-2mm but -5 should be ok.

ok, thanx...
what I get from yer reply...I think... is that the stock offset is like 40mm... and the 38 to 42 range is the +/- 2...but you could go +/- 5...hence the 35mm offset...

..and if i remember the older post right, the lower the offset number, the further the wheels "stick out",...right?
