you know its a problem when people haven't been using the gauge since 95. Out of the 10 years the neons have had such a simple problem...wouldn't you think dodge would fix it lol.

 

it's mostly because the fuel tank is quite small

 

I calculate from my trip and fill up. I had 192.2 MI on my trip and 1/4 tank left. fill up was 7.35 = 26.15 MPG I think and that's mostly highway and some city driving with my auto (i usually floor it to get up to 65mph coming on to the parkway)

 

yep freakin gauge sucks and it drives me crazy

 

I get 30+ MPG consistantly. I think I get about 33 highway, one or two less city. I have strange driving habits.

 

hmmmm hypermiling in your neon??? i swear ive never been able to get better than about 25-27 mpg.

 

My all time best was 32mph in my R/T after I installed my Comp 400 with nearly 100% highway...now its like 22-25 because I have two CEL's and I'm 100% city driving.

 

-Mine usually gets around 23-25 mpg in mixed driving around home. But when we went on vacation, I hit 38 mpg in one section between fillups and the overall average was around 34 mpg for the entire tripI believe. I can deal with lower mileage in and around town as long as I know the higher mpg is waiting for me on the open road.

my 3 neons get all sorts of different mileage:
96 auto 130k miles gets the best, 32-36 i beat the crap out of this car.
00 manual 100k miles second best, 30-34 i beat this one too.
05 auto 20k miles worst, 25-30, and i baby it.

it seems like the more i beat a car and the higher the miles get, the better the gas mileage is...go figure.

FYI, I have not put one cent into the 00neon for repairs. i romp that thing all the time and take corners hard. i bought it brand new. is the best car i ever had.

 

hmmm so i gotta start beating the crap out of my car to get better mileage eh?
