Default not the rev limiter. what is it.?

well today i was playing around with a 1st gen neon, not sure what he had but it looked pretty sweet, wheels exhaust looked and sounded pretty good but needless to say I killed him from a redlight. But anyway I have a atx I started off in first, somehow I shifted into neutral while at a pretty high rev, instead of the normal rev limiter kicking in it like flooded out with fuel or something, made a very strange growling noise rather than the sound it makes when the rev limiter kicks in. It was strange, just wondering if anyone else had experienced this?? lemme know..

real answer:

It was the rev limiter... on an ATX car there is a seperate limiter when in P or N which prevents transmission failure. The transmission is not made handle high revs with no load. There is a limiter at 4k when in N or P.

Graphite said it best. guess I just got excited that I was beating him and thought it was in third was gonna put it into OD and was one shift higher than I thought.

But on a sidenote I have duplicated it after this incident and it will do it no matter what the revs are at did it as low as 1200, so it is not the actual engine rev limiter. I know what your talking about graphite, that cuts fire to the engine, this doesnt cut fire or fuel. Ill investigate further and let you know what I come up with.
