how fast can i make my sohc 01 neon?
i just want a realistic answer to this question. i want to do basic upgrades and even get into internals but with this motor am i limited? would a turbo step me way up? can i easily make this a 15 sec car maybe a 14?
Yes. You can get your car into the 14s without too much a problem all motor. Its really a matter of how much you want to spend and how fast you want to go.
It would be alot easier to get a 2.0L DOHC or a 2.4L DOHC and build it, you have far more to start with and much better gains from the modifications. If your going to dig into the engine though it will be quite easy to get your SOHC into the 15's or 14's, the cam is the first major part that need improving followed by the intake manifold. Here are several great links for your build up, but you should check with our sponsons first since they can usually get anything you need and at discounted prices:

RR, I was told that the SOHC is an easier, cheaper and stronger motor to build. Correct me if I'm wrong.
Neonster,
It all depends on where you want to end up with the car. there is no sense in getting say a Crane #12 cam, performance pcm, and then turning around and putting a super turbo in the car, the parts you just bought are now no good to you. Get a plan for the car and figure out if you want a 15, 14, 13, 12, 11 or even an 10 second car, anything is possible with enough money and time, and work from there.

If that were true then everybody would be running them instead of the DOHC motors. Both the fastest N/A and forced induction Neons are using DOHC motors. The only place that the SOHC woulds be cheaper to mod is the cams and cam gears since the SOHC only has one.
