Default Brake grinding

When ever I step on the brakes I hear what seems to be a really bad grinding noise coming from the rear tires. Sometimes I hear it when I am driving normally. Whats wrong with my car?

Your brakes are probably bad and those are warning tabs, telling you your pads are very low.

Do you have rear drums or disks? If you have drums I would pop off the drums and check to see if anything is binding up. I had a simular proplem and actually broke off the self adjustor recently and got a rebuild kit and its all good now. It would make a screetch 35perc of the time when I was driving. I was on my way home and it started. I ended up stopping at my moms on the way home to tear apart the rear brake so it wouldnt lock up. If you have disks like listed above its prolly just the pads wearing down to the warning tab.

I have drum brakes on the rear. Any Idea on how much it would cost to get it fixed?

Have you ever done brakework before? I would atleast pop off the drums to see if anything is binding up. Because like said it could also be a wheel bearing. Once the back of the is jacked up see if the rear tire will move around, if it wobbles that you have a wheel bearing problem.
