I was on my way to work today and noticed a wierd whining noise as I accelerate. I'm not sure exactly where it's coming from but I opened the hood and pushed the throttle to try to narrow it down, all i can tell is that it is coming from the passenger side around the pulley area....any one have any ideas what it could be? You can also hear it when the car is idling, but only if you are outside

problem solved. ha ha ha sorry, i couldn't resist.

you can use a short piece of pipe as a stethoscope and CAREFULLY place it on the PS pump, alternator, etc to see where the sound is the loudest.

in my mom's grand prix something similar happened and it was the tie rods.. dont know if that has anything to do with this but just a suggestion..

 

it makes the noise when its parked also and i give it a lil gas

 

low power steering fluid... go check it and add some if needed....that should solve the problem
