Performance chips?
ORIGINAL: JosephLo123
i'm planning to get a performance chip from ebay. it's costs about $16 and is ganrentee to work. it's surpose to increase horse power by 40 and save gas too. has anyone ever boughtone of these performance chips before? will it affect my car in a bad way? (engine problems, computer problems etc.) if anyone has any infomation on it, it would be helpful.

Buy the chip, but don't install it... Bring your car to the dyno and see what it makes for power. Install the chip while the car is cooling down. Dyno again. When you make no extra power, demand your money back for the chip and the dyno. When they say to go screw you can take them to small claims court. When you lose due to a stipulation in the fine print, you can make another post on here about how you lost almost a $1000 over these dumb ebay chip scams.
i tried one of those chips, it said the same, 40 hp for 10$. didin't work. the check engine light turned on and i didin't get any hp. i got a cold air intake, k&n, some bosch performance spark plugs, some performance spurk plug wires and i'm happy with that.

The problem with stuff like this and the Jet Piggy back chip is that the computer system "learns" the chip and re-sets everything back to stock after a couple months so you're basically wasting your money. The only real way to "tweak" out computers is to install a MegaSqurit unit, then you'll be able to play with timing and fuel/air mixtures. Other then that they're really nothing for us 2gn guys. [

When I had it on I felt a lil better pickupin acceleration but like they say, the butt dyno doesn't really mean jack. If i had the money I would do the dyno tests but they are expensive around here. Anyway I took it off because I was afraid it was somehow fry my ecu and after reading more about NGC, it makes sense that it wouldn't work.
The ebay "chips" are just resistors (i think thats what they are called) you can get them anywhere (I saw them at radioshack)for about 25 cents. Don't do a damn thing, so don't waste your money. A friend of mine (different car)bought one to see if it worked, and like stated above, it just pulled up a CEL.
Take your girlfriend to a cheap *** restaurant with that money at least you might get lucky in the end, with the chip you'll just get regretful feelings.

this talks about the AIT mod, the TPS mod, The "EBAY" chips.
they dont work especially in NGC neon.
