Default help, car kept rolling out of driveway lol

ok, so i was parked on a driveway. It has a somewhat steep hill. Its my girlfriends driveway and its never done this before. So I park and pull the E brake up but my bald rear tires were on ice. So it starts rolling back. Once I realize this I look to see if I'm in gear, i was, then i hit the brakes and nothing. So im scrambling for my keys get it started then i got the brakes going. So i get the fact that my rear tires weren't gripping so the E-brake wasn't doing anything. but why wasn't my car being in gear stopping it either? The manual says to put the car in reverse, I don't know why but thats what I do. Everyone I know puts it in 1st gear though. So I tried putting it in first to see if it would stop my car and nothing.

Why? lol.

btw, I moved my car to a spot with no ice and its safe now

You just want to put the car in the gear that would allow you to go in the opposite direction your car will roll. Funny thing my rear tires were actually frozen to the ground this morning because of all the slush which froze. At first I thought my ebrake was stuck. But I got it out after jerking the car around a little.

well sure, thats why I did an experiment. once I got the car stopped I put it in first and shut off the car. let the ebrake down and let of the brakes. The car still rolled backwards. And it wasn't like it rolled back 6 inches or so then stopped, it kept rolling. If I find a hill I will get video. I mean...the only thing I can think of is that the clutch isn't holding. But that doesn't make sense to me.

ok, well I think my front tires were just slipping in her driveway. I just pulled in my garage and put it in nuetral to see if it would roll, it did...not good that garage isn't flat but whatever lol. Anyways, I put it in first and it stopped this time. So in her driveway I just had no traction whatsoever lol.

Depending on the steepness of the hill a weak clutch or weak compression can let a car roll. My old Civic with 300k+ on it would not hold itself with only the car in gear.

sounds like an idea! ...Kristine II: Attack of the neon *voice over dude talks in cool voice*can you out run the neon? ...probablllyyy.

Anyways, dukk, what do you mean by compression? I know my clutch is strong enough to hold though. always make up pretty steep hills while driving no problem.
