Default Tranny recommendations

Took my car in to have the tranny looked at...Well they determined that it is an internal issue and they need to perform an internal inspection to see what the damage really is. In order for them to do that work they'll charge me $525 to take the tranny out, rip it apart, and determine what the problem is..they'll then put together a list of what parts are needed to repair the tranny and give me a price. If I stick with them and let them do the work, they waive that $525 and only charge me for parts and labor. Here's my question..
The car is a 2000 w/ 108,000 miles on it. Its in great shape other than this tranny issue and probably has at least another 80k miles to go if maintained properly. Is it worth it to spend that kinda money on the car? Should I have the tranny repaired or should I put it up for sale? Any input is appreciated. P.S. The company does stand by their work for 2 years or 24k miles which seems like a pretty decent warranty.

man oh man. if you got a couple of good jackstands, you could pull the tranny out yourself and throw a new one in and still be cheaper than those tranny shops. i hate those places. they charge soooooo much for labor. see what a brand new tranny costs compared to them fixing your old one. and if something else breaks in your tranny, all they have to tell you is "yes your transmission has a problem but it has nothing to do with what we fixed so we have to charge you more money"
