RE: autocross
I auto-cross.
My tips:
Suspension, suspension, suspension.
Go slow your first time through a course. Your goal should be a base-line "clean" run, meaning you hit no cones.
Then, you build speed through corners, straight aways, etc. trying to maximize cleanliness on the track. A fast sloppy time will be beaten by a slow clean time.
Also, you will quickly learn the neons limitations with its stock suspension, and that those lowering springs are not sometimes the best for performance around those twisties.
Classes are STRICT, so be careful as to what you do to your car. Stock classes are some of the strictest. I recommend good meat (tires) for a simple stock class car.
I run SM... and I am severely OUTCLASSED!!! I run with turbo sport compacts producing roughly 4 times more power than me, with full suspension work (done by professionals). So, i am screwed for placement purposes. I only go to get better at driving (yes it helps a LOT).
