Default Lowering

Hi.. I just picked up my Eibach lowering springs (1.5") for my 2001 Dodge Neon, I am going to do the job myself with some help from some others.. I am just wondering from people who have done this what to expect, what problems I may run into, was it hard ect.. Also could could someone explain to me how to trim the bumpstops?? Thanks Ryan

Hi I have a small problem.. Today I was beganing to lower my Neon.. I got the front strut assembly completley off and the new spring on.. I ran into a problem with tightening the strut screw.. You have to hold the nut, while turning the screw.. You need a wrench with a deep offset.. I went to sears and got a craftsman, however it was not deep enough and i cannot hold the nut to tighten the screw.. Also how tight do I make it? Anyone who has done this before on ur Neon please let me know how so... Thanks, Ryan

I am not sure on the torque spec, but very tight. Did you rent a spring compressor?

55ft lbs for both front and back. Maybe this will help you.

the way i did mine was push the bump stop down and use a good pair of channel locks to grip the strut rod and have a friend use an impact gun and socket... works great

Yeah, thats basically how I did mine. You just have to make sure you don't let the strut shaft turn or else you're f'ed.

not a good idea to use vise grips on the strut rod, you will gouge the rod and when you drive your car all the fluid in the strut will escape and then you have a bad strut, best way is to use a air gun and hammer it till the strut mount starts to move but dont let it turn or spin. and that is when the nut is tight.

yea the vice grip would work but would scratch the rod. what i did was put a small 10 mm on the top piece and put the larger socket that had edges for a wrench to go on it, and put the socket over the 10 mm and turned both opposite ways. hard to describe but it worked great!.
