Default Gas mileage...

My 2003 Neon SE doesn't get good gas mileage - I called the dealer and they said it's common in the beginning for it to get low gas mileage, and it will soon get the 28-32 MPG HWY that it is specified to...Is that true?

Seems like as I'm going down the road, the gage slowly moves towards "E" faster than any other car I've driven, like it is the hour hand on a clock or something.

My 04 did the same thing. I started noticing better gas mileage once I reached around 1700 miles.

yeah, it should probably pick up. Just let the engine get broken in and running smooth and you'll see the improvement. if not, go bitch at the dealer. but give it a while.

Gas milage during the breakin period is not going to be as good, but once you have maybe 3000 miles on it, it should go up. If not I would go complain to the dealer

Mine has about 6,000 miles... It's starting to get better - I filled up the air in the tires today. They were down to about 20 PSI!! [:-]

I'll keep tryin to break it in...Thanks!

When I got my 04 SXT 5-speed it had 12 miles on the odometer. It took 15 to fill up and would get about 158 to a full tank. Now its got 7,102 and i can get 270 before the light comes on. Hopefully when i put Mobil 1 in it it'll get even better!

What are you getting for gas milage right now??? Is it even close??? My 04 SE gets close to the proper milage and always remember if you pump has that "Up to 10% Ethenol" sticker you milage will not be as good as it could other wise be. The fuel will have 5% less energy that pure gasoline. Also look at driving habits and yes tire pressure, loads in the trunk. Is it COLD outside in your area now??? In cold weather the car will burn more fuel to warm up than it would otherwise do in say MIAMI! Just a few things to think of..

15 to fill up? Last time I checked it was a 12.5 gallon gas tank.
