Default Trouble Codes p0340 and p1684

I have a 2001 ES MTX. Never had a Check Engine Light before, last night it comes up with two codes.

P0340"Camshaft Position Sensor Circuit Malfunction"
P1684"Metering Oil Pump Position Sensor Circuit Malfunction"

Being that i've never had any pop up before and now i have two that are both cicuit malfunctions, i was thinking relay or possibly a bad ground? The driveability hasn't been affected except for a small sputter when the light came on, I drove another 20 miles home with no problems whatsoever. I got home and disconected the neg terminal to reset the computer, but it just came back when i hooked it back up. Any ideas or suggestions?

Hi! My 2002 SXT (~58,000 miles) has just started to get this problem. Small sputtering every so often with the engine light coming on. I have the same codes. It does not happen all the time. The car seems to run great except for the sputter once in a while.

What did you figure out was wrong with yours?

Ok. Does that include if I drain the battery and have to get it jumped?

What about the sputtering and the P0340 code.

you might have a short or a bad ground somewhere comming from/going to the camshaft position sensor.... or the sensor might be about to go.... that is a sensor you DO NOT want to go out on you... bad things will happen

Just to be safe, I'll go get a new sensor today and put it in. Thank you for your help.

For the P0340 just buy a new cam positioning sensor, they're like $12 from Autozone IIRC. If it goes out completely you'll be limping your way home with a 2,700 RPM rev limiter and no response from the engine whatsoever. As for the P1684, that just means the battery has been disconnected within the last 50 ignition cycles, so I wouldnt worry about it.

Another thing you have to change is the crackshaft position sensor. If you just change the cam sensor the check engine light will stay on. i just had the same p0340 code come in my car and im a mechanic.
